Sundargarh: A pregnant woman was shot dead by unidentified miscreants outside her home in the Jhirdapali area under Tikayatpali police limits in Bonaigarh, Sundargarh district, on Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Simamayee Behera.
According to sources, a group of unidentified miscreants attempted to break into Behera’s house at midnight by forcing it open. Behera opened the door hearing the commotion. Upon seeing her, the assailants attempted to snatch the gold chain and mangalsutra but shot her and fled the scene when she resisted their robbery attempt.
The critically injured woman was rushed to Sundargarh District Headquarters Hospital but succumbed to her injuries before reaching the facility. She was reportedly 7-months pregnant. A police complaint has been filed, and initial accounts from the deceased family indicate that two persons were involved in the shooting.
