Several hostel inmates of the Basipitha Ashram School in Khunta block of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district embarked on a 25-kilometre journey to Baripada to bring their grievances directly to the District Collector.
The students, frustrated by the poor-quality food and abusive behaviour of their teachers, scaled the hostel boundary wall and walked through the night to seek help.
Upon arrival in Baripada, the students were met by district officials who listened to their complaints about substandard food and verbal abuse from teachers. The officials arranged for transportation to take the students back to their hostel.
In response, the District Collector visited the school to address the students’ concerns. The District Welfare Officer (DWO) and Block Development Officer (BDO) were tasked with investigating the matter to ensure the issues were resolved promptly.
This incident highlights the urgent need for improved living conditions and respectful treatment within educational institutions.
