Panic spread across Rusibenua near Koida Forest Range in Sundaragada district after a stray tusker turned violent, blocking the main road for over four hours and leaving traffic at a standstill.
Witnesses said the tusker, with blood on its tusks, emerged from the forest and stood across the highway, smashing vehicles and attempting to trample a driver and bystanders. Terrified motorists and pedestrians fled to safety as the animal wreaked havoc.
Locals revealed that the same tusker has previously claimed several lives, sparking renewed fear in the region. The latest rampage has intensified demands for permanent safety measures against recurring elephant attacks.
Forest officials rushed to the spot, monitoring the tusker’s movements and making efforts to drive it back into the jungle. Despite repeated interventions, villagers expressed frustration over the frequent elephant menace and urged authorities to provide lasting protection.
