A fresh wave of unrest swept through Noida’s Sector 80 on Tuesday as thousands of workers demanding higher wages clashed with police, leading to stone-pelting and vandalism.

The agitation, which began peacefully, escalated when protesters insisted on a minimum monthly wage of Rs 20,000 and accused employers of exploiting loopholes in labour laws.

Police forces, including RAF and PAC units, were deployed across sensitive zones, with drone surveillance and flag marches conducted to restore order.

Authorities confirmed that over 300 individuals were taken into custody, while seven FIRs were registered against those involved in violence and arson.

Workers highlighted disparities in allowances, alleged unfair rehiring practices, and wage cuts post-apprenticeship. Officials, however, warned that enforcing government-mandated wages could risk job losses, adding to the uncertainty.

The Uttar Pradesh DGP appealed for peace, assuring strict action against offenders and recovery of damages from those responsible.

Despite a temporary calm, the protests underline deep-rooted concerns over wage security and labour rights in Noida’s industrial belt.
