Sonepur: In a tragic incident, a man and his 6-year-old son met a watery grave after a boat they were ferrying on capsized in the Mahanadi River near Binika in Sonepur district.
The deceased persons have been identified as Suleman khan (51) and his son Azlan Khan (6)
Reportedly, the incident took place at around 7 pm on Friday while Suleman was returning from Baikani temple inside river Mahanadi river along with his son, daughter, and a neighbour’s son Mihir.
Unfortunately, the boat capsized after hitting a pillar of the Binika-Chadeipanka Bridge. The two boatmen rescued Suleman’s daughter and Mihir ashore before fleeing the spot. However, Suleman and Azlan drowned as they failed to swim.
On receiving information, police along with the fire tenders reached the spot and found the father-son duo from the river. The duo was immediately rushed to hospital where the doctor declared them ‘brought dead’.
On the orders of Sonepur Sub Collector Nihar Ranjan Kanhar, Binika ABDO Niranjan Naik and BSSO Ashwini Pandey reached the hospital and provided Rs 10,000 to the deceased’s family, from the Red Cross fund and Rs 6,000 under the Harishchandra scheme.
