Skyroot Aerospace will launch Vikram-I, India’s first privately developed orbital rocket, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre between July 12 and August 4.
The maiden mission, named Aagaman (Arrival), aims to validate the rocket’s design, propulsion, guidance, and stage separation.
The company confirmed that Vikram-I has been fully integrated and stacked at the First Launch Pad, with final checks underway. This mission represents a defining moment for India’s commercial space ambitions, placing the country among select nations with privately developed orbital launch capabilities.
Skyroot previously made history in 2022 with Vikram-S, India’s first private suborbital rocket. Unlike that demonstration, Vikram-I is designed to place satellites into orbit, making it the first true orbital mission by an Indian private company.
According to Skyroot, the Aagaman mission will collect critical in-flight performance data to refine future versions of the launch vehicle. The company plans to offer cost-effective, on-demand launch services for the global small satellite market.
The mission also reflects India’s space sector reforms, which opened the ecosystem to private players through IN-SPACe. Since then, startups have expanded rapidly in satellite manufacturing, launch vehicles, and downstream applications.
If successful, Vikram-I will validate Skyroot’s technology and signal a new chapter in India’s commercial space journey, where private companies are expected to play a leading role in meeting global demand for frequent and affordable access to space.
