Union Home Minister Amit Shah cancelled his scheduled two-day Odisha visit planned for July 4 and 5. He was slated to attend public meetings in Baragada and Sambalpur, along with organisational programmes in Jharsuguda.
Baragada MP Pradip Purohit confirmed the cancellation, citing Shah’s official engagements at the Centre. Odisha BJP state president Manmohan Samal also announced that Shah’s itinerary included inaugurating an ethanol project and several other development initiatives.
The visit was expected to energise party workers and strengthen BJP’s outreach in western Odisha. Preparations had been underway for large gatherings, with the ethanol project launch seen as a major highlight.
The cancellation has delayed the inauguration of key projects and postponed BJP’s mobilisation efforts in the region. Party insiders indicated that the visit will be rescheduled, though no fresh dates have been announced.
Shah’s Odisha tours often carry significant political weight, given the state’s importance in national strategies. His absence has shifted focus to when the Union Home Minister will announce a new schedule for Odisha.
