Nuapada DHH security death

A security guard employed at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Nuapada district was found dead on the hospital premises.

The deceased, identified as Laghutam Sahu (46), a resident of Parsabuda village under Nuapada NAC, was working as a security guard through an outsourcing agency.

Around 5 PM today, Sahu’s body was discovered lying on a safety tank within the hospital compound. It is suspected that Sahu ended his life by jumping from the hospital roof.

The incident has led to road blockades and demonstrations, with demands for compensation to the victim’s family. Family members claimed that Sahu had not received his salary for the past nine months.

News of the discovery spread quickly, prompting immediate action from opposition leaders. BJD workers first blocked National Highway 353, halting traffic and creating tension in the area. Soon after, both BJD and Congress supporters gathered in front of the Chief District Medical Officer’s (CDMO) office, staging a vocal demonstration.

BJD candidate Snehangini Chhuria, along with her supporters, and Congress PCC President Bhakta Das with his team, led the protests.

Deeply shocked to learn that a security guard named Laghutama Sahu working at Nuapada District Hospital ended his life by jumping from the hospital roof.

They chanted slogans against the administration, accusing it of negligence and demanding immediate compensation for Sahu’s family. The agitators also called for the resignation of Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, holding the state government responsible for the plight of outsourced workers in healthcare facilities.

Administrative officials arrived at the scene but remained silent as the protests continued until the time of reporting. Police have stated that the exact cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination.

The incident has provided fresh ammunition for BJD and Congress to intensify their agitation against the ruling party, highlighting issues of worker exploitation and delayed payments in public sector outsourcing.

As tensions simmer, local authorities are monitoring the situation to prevent further escalation.
