Commissionerate Police arrested fugitive prisoner Raja Sahani from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand after his escape from Choudwar Jail on October 3, 2025.
DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania confirmed the arrest and revealed that Sahani disguised himself to evade capture. A special team of Cuttack UPD tracked him down and secured his transit remand to bring him back to Odisha for further investigation.
With Sahani’s arrest, police have now caught two of the three prisoners who fled Choudwar Jail. Earlier, officers arrested co-accused Madhukant Rana from Vrindavan. The third escapee remains at large, and police continue their search.
The prisoners escaped on Dussehra day after cutting the jail grill, raising serious concerns about prison security. The incident triggered questions about possible inside help and lapses in vigilance. Investigators are probing the escape route, potential accomplices, and weaknesses in jail infrastructure.
