Sambalpur University VC’s Anticipatory Bail Plea Rejected In Staff Suicide Case

Sambalpur: A Sessions Court here has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Sambalpur University Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjib Mittal in connection with the suicide of varsity staff member Dinabandhu Mishra.

Mittal and two other staff members, Prof Biswajit Satapathy and Abinash Kar whose names are there in the suicide note of the deceased, had applied to the High Court and were granted 21-day anticipatory bail. The High Court had ruled that they could not be arrested for three weeks. The interim bail period expired on Monday, May 25th.

Sambalpur University VC, Prof. Mittal again applied for anticipatory bail. However, Session Court Judge BK Patra dismissed the bail application stating that there is sufficient evidence against the petitioner.

Mittal is the prime accused in the self-immolation case of an employee of the university Dinabandhu Mishra on April 20.
