In a massive breakthrough against international drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized Captagon worth ₹182 crore in India for the first time under a special operation named ‘Operation Ragepill’.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the operation and praised the anti-narcotics agencies for their aggressive action against global drug cartels.
India’s First-Ever Captagon Seizure
Captagon, often referred to as the “Jihadi Drug,” is a highly dangerous synthetic stimulant that has been linked to terror networks and illegal trafficking operations across the Middle East and Africa.
According to officials, the huge consignment was meant to be transported to Middle Eastern markets before being intercepted by the NCB. Authorities also arrested a foreign national in connection with the case.
Sharing details of the operation, Amit Shah said the Narendra Modi government remains committed to a strict zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.
“We will clamp down on every gram of drugs entering India or leaving the country using our territory as the transit route,” Shah stated in a post on X.
He further congratulated the NCB officers involved in the successful mission and described the seizure as a major victory in India’s war against drugs.
What Is Captagon?
Captagon is an amphetamine-based synthetic drug banned in most countries. It is notorious for being abused by extremist groups and criminal organisations because of its stimulant effects.
Security agencies across the world have long associated the drug with illegal terror financing and cross-border smuggling operations.
The seizure marks a significant milestone for Indian authorities as Captagon had never before been intercepted inside the country on such a large scale.
Major Blow To International Drug Syndicates
The development comes shortly after Indian agencies secured the return of notorious drug trafficker Mohammad Salim Dola from Türkiye under another anti-drug mission called Operation Global-Hunt.
Dola, who allegedly operated a vast transnational narcotics network across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa, was detained in Istanbul after coordinated intelligence inputs from Indian agencies and Interpol.
Officials said Dola had been absconding for years and was wanted in multiple drug trafficking cases in India.
NCB Intensifies Global Crackdown
The latest Captagon seizure highlights India’s increasing cooperation with international intelligence agencies to dismantle global narcotics syndicates.
Officials believe operations like Ragepill and Global-Hunt are helping India strengthen its position in the fight against organised drug crime and terror-linked trafficking networks.
The NCB is expected to continue investigations to uncover the larger network linked to the seized Captagon consignment.
