Sambalpur district witnessed a shocking incident during the famous Makar festival at Bamra. Miscreants allegedly broke open the donation box of Jagannath temple at Gobindpur and stole cash.
According to reports, the temple priest Ajay Pujari locked the shrine on Sunday night before leaving for home. On Monday morning, he discovered that the donation box had been broken and nearly Rs 15,000 was missing. He immediately informed the temple management committee about the theft.
Later in the evening, around 6 pm, the committee lodged a formal complaint at the Gobindpur police station. Police have begun investigating the case and are trying to identify the culprits.
The incident occurred while Bamra was hosting the renowned Makar festival, which attracts large gatherings of devotees and visitors. The theft has raised concerns about security arrangements at religious sites during major festivals.
Temple authorities urged stricter vigilance and appealed to police for swift action. Local residents expressed shock over the incident, demanding that the culprits be arrested soon.
