In a significant crackdown on illicit activities, the Rourkela police have been conducting an intensive four-hour raid at a residence in Basanti Colony, under the jurisdiction of Udit Nagar Police Station.
The operation targets a local businessman suspected of involvement in the storage and smuggling of illegal firearms.
According to preliminary reports, the raid was initiated based on specific intelligence inputs regarding unauthorized arms dealings in the area. Sources close to the investigation reveal that at least one weapon has been seized during the ongoing search, though official confirmation from authorities is still pending.
The raid commenced following directives from the Rourkela Superintendent of Police (SP), Nitesh Wadhwani, who assembled a specialised team dedicated to the search and seizure operation.
Details about the exact nature of the seized arms, potential arrests, and the broader scope of the illegal weapons network are expected to emerge once the raid concludes. The operation has drawn attention from local residents, highlighting concerns over safety and organised crime in residential neighbourhoods.
