The maiden flight test of the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR 120) was successfully conducted today at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha.

Developed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment in collaboration with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, and supported by the Defence Research and Development Laboratory and Research Centre Imarat, this rocket was tested for its maximum range of 120 kilometers. The flight demonstrated all planned in-flight maneuvers and hit the target with textbook precision.

All deployed range instruments tracked the rocket’s flight throughout its trajectory. The flight trial was coordinated by the Integrated Test Range (ITR) and the Proof and Experimental Establishment.

The LRGR was launched from the existing Pinaka launcher, showcasing its versatility and the capability to launch various Pinaka variants with different ranges from the same platform.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO on this achievement, stating that the successful design and development of long-range guided rockets would enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces and termed it a game changer.

Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of the DRDO, witnessed the trial and congratulated all teams for successfully achieving the mission objectives.

Earlier today, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for various proposals from the three services, totaling approximately Rs. 79,000 crore.
