Panic gripped the Manada area under Jashipur police limits in Mayurbhanj district on Friday after two bike-borne miscreants opened fire in broad daylight and looted approximately Rs 2 lakh from a local bank extension agent.
The incident targeted Pradeep Mohanta, a “Bank Mitra” and business correspondent operating a Punjab National Bank-approved Common Service Centre (CSC) located along the busy Jashipur-Raruan road.
According to reports, the robbery took place at around 1:30 PM on Friday while Mohanta was tending to routine customer transactions at his service centre near Manada Square.
Two unidentified individuals arrived at the spot on a motorcycle and fired blank shots into the air. They then snatched a bag containing roughly Rs 2 lakh in cash from Mohanta at gunpoint.
The incident comes barely 15 days after a similar high-profile heist in Jashipur market, where armed criminals fired shots in broad daylight to loot a bag containing gold and silver ornaments.
