The Odisha Vigilance has successfully secured the conviction of a Revenue Inspector (RI) in a high-profile bribery case.
On October 29, 2026, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack (Kataka), pronounced a guilty verdict against Prasanta Kumar Nayak, currently serving as the RI of the Salepur RI Circle under Salepur Tahasil (previously attached to the Samitanga RI Circle under Kishannagar Tahasil). Nayak was previously charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 7 and 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The case stems from a targeted sting where Nayak was caught red-handed demanding and accepting illegal gratification from a complainant. The bribe was extorted to keep an ongoing encroachment case concerning government land active and favourable.
Justice Served and Next Steps
The Special Judge, Vigilance, sentenced Sri Nayak to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years alongside a monetary fine. Following the pronouncement of the judgment, the convict was immediately taken into custody and sent to jail to begin serving his sentence.
Demonstrating zero tolerance for graft, the Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will now approach the competent authority to officially dismiss Prasanta Kumar Nayak from government service in the wake of his criminal conviction.
