A tragic incident unfolded near Kesarmal village, where retired soldier Sunil Tiga (46) was swept away by a strong river current while returning home on his motorcycle.
Tiga, a resident of Gariamala village under Kesaramal Panchayat, had been actively involved in training local youth in hockey and participating in social activities after retirement. On Independence Day, he was invited to Ramavahal to witness a hockey tournament and was honoured for his contributions.
While returning home on his Bullet motorcycle (OD-14-AA-6608), he attempted to cross a bridge near Kesarmal village. Misjudging the force of the water flow, he lost control and fell into the river along with his bike. Witnesses said he tried to swim but was overwhelmed by the powerful current and was swept away.
Since last evening, fire services, local police, and villagers have been engaged in a search and rescue operation, but he remains missing. The incident has sparked concern over safety measures at vulnerable bridges and water crossings in the region.
