In a heartbreaking incident that highlights the plight of migrant labourers, a young man from Odisha who went to a neighbouring state in search of livelihood has returned home in a body bag.
The tragic event took place in Leliguma village, under the Siripai Gram Panchayat of Kashipur block in Rayagada district.
The deceased has been identified as Paika Majhi, a native of Leliguma village.
According to available reports, Paika Majhi had migrated to Andhra Pradesh about two months ago to work as a labourer in a chemical manufacturing plant to support his family back home. On Wednesday evening, while working at the facility, he suddenly fell ill under undisclosed circumstances and passed away shortly after.
Early Thursday morning, around 4:00 AM, an ambulance carrying Paika’s mortal remains reached his native village. The news sent shockwaves through the community, plunging his family and the entire village into deep grief.
Paika was the sole breadwinner of his family and is survived by his four young children and spouse. With his unexpected demise, the destitute family now faces an uncertain future, completely helpless and stripped of their primary source of sustenance. Local residents have urged the state government and relevant authorities to step in and extend financial compensation to support the bereaved family.
