A 23-year-old man from Jharkhand’s Palamu district has been lodged in a UAE jail for the past four months after allegedly leaving his job without proper notification and falling prey to a fraudulent agent.
The youth, identified as Shashi Kumar Paswan, a resident of Dadra village, had travelled to Dubai in 2025 to work on a contract for a private company.
Shashi’s father, Lalan Paswan, submitted a formal application at the Hussainabad police station on Monday, urging local authorities and the Government of India to intervene and secure his son’s release.
According to family members, Shashi wanted to return home to attend his sister’s wedding in June. He paid an agent to facilitate his return and remained absent from work for seven consecutive days, leading to his detention by local authorities. He is currently held in Dubai’s Al Rashidiya jail.
Police officials confirmed that Shashi was incarcerated for leaving his employer without completing required formalities and attempting to exit through an unauthorised agent.
Palamu Superintendent of Police Kapil Choudhary stated that the family’s representation has been forwarded to higher administrative authorities for necessary legal and diplomatic action through official channels.
