Jantar Mantar, the historic 18th-century astronomical observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur, has been officially added as a venue for the upcoming India Biennale 2026.
Organised by the Ministry of Culture, the updated event itinerary reflects the inclusion of the iconic monument alongside 18 other heritage and cultural spaces across the national capital.
The 108-day art, architecture, and design festival is scheduled to run from Dec 4, 2026, to March 21, 2027. Major historical venues include the Lodhi Gardens, Qutub Minar complex, Agrasen ki Baoli, Red Fort, and Safdarjung Tomb, with the 16th-century Purana Qila serving as the primary hub.
Prominent institutions, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, and Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, will participate in activating Delhi’s heritage into live cultural spaces.
The development follows the Oct 11 denotification of Jantar Mantar Road as a designated protest site. Police identified Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground, and CBD Ground as alternative demonstration venues, aligning with recent Supreme Court observations led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant advocating larger, better-equipped locations for public assemblies.
