Rasagola Dibasa, celebrated on the occasion of Niladri Bije, highlights the cultural and historical significance of Odisha’s iconic sweet, rasagola.

Initiated on July 4, 2015, this social event aims to promote Rasagola’s global identity, deeply tied to the Jagannath Temple’s traditions.

For over 800 years, the ritual of Lord Jagannath offering Rasagola to Goddess Mahalakshmi during Niladri Bije to appease her has been a cherished practice in Puri’s Srimandir.

According to legend, Mahalakshmi becomes upset when Lord Jagannath returns from the Rath Yatra with his siblings, and he reconciles with her by offering Rasagola.

While the exact origins of Rasagola remain undocumented, its prominence grew in the late 19th century when Kelu Charan Behera began its commercial production in Pahala, Odisha. Today, Salepur’s Bikalananda Kar Rasagola and Pahala Rasagola are renowned across India and beyond.

Rasagola Dibasa celebrates this sweet’s legacy, blending devotion, tradition, and culinary heritage, making it a delightful occasion for locals and tourists alike.
