Addressing a massive INDIA bloc rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a direct assault on the government and the Election Commission, asserting that removing Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar is the essential first step to restoring India’s democratic framework.
Speaking before thousands of supporters, Gandhi accused CEC Gyanesh Kumar of committing an “anti-national” act by facilitating the mass deletion of legitimate voters.
He claimed that systemic “vote theft” occurred across recent state assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls via electoral roll tampering and EVM manipulation. Warning Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Gandhi stated that the Opposition would ensure legal accountability, declaring that Kumar would ultimately be removed and face jail time.
The rally marked the climax of the Opposition’s campaign against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Top leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, and Tejashwi Yadav joined the demonstration.
Responding sharply to the allegations, Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticised the Opposition for organising the rally on the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, accusing Congress of insensitivity.
Simultaneously, the BJP rejected all claims of electoral manipulation, dismissing Gandhi’s statements as an attempt to undermine public trust in constitutional bodies.
