A chilling discovery shocked residents of Puri’s Kumbharapada area on Tuesday when police dug out the decomposed body of a woman from beneath the kitchen floor of a rented house.
Reports suggest the woman’s son allegedly murdered her, buried the body, and plastered over the floor to conceal the crime. The body, estimated to be around four days old, was recovered along with a knife seized from the spot.
The case came to light on Monday after foul odour and dirty water began seeping through the kitchen floor. House owner Manorama Sahu alerted police, stating that the woman and her son had been tenants for about two months. While the woman had not been seen for several days, her son had allegedly gone missing since Sunday.
Suspicion grew among neighbors, leading to police intervention. On Tuesday, Kumbharapada police dug up the kitchen floor and recovered the decomposed remains.
Police sources said the son is believed to have killed his mother before burying her under the floor. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding accused.
