Police arrested 22-year-old Satyabrat Parida, the alleged mastermind behind the gang rape of a college student in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
Officers intercepted him at Jajpur Road Railway Station after tracking his movements from Delhi.
Parida, a resident of Kalyanipur in Jajpur, worked for a private firm in Delhi. He knew the victim, who also hailed from Jajpur and was pursuing her undergraduate studies in Cuttack. Investigators revealed that Parida abducted the student in February, transporting her to Puri with three associates. The group checked into a hotel where the victim was allegedly drugged and gang raped.
The survivor regained consciousness later that evening and filed a complaint at the Cantonment Police Station. Police registered a case and launched a high-level probe. Acting on intelligence, a special team, including a female Sub-Inspector, detained Parida at Jajpur Road Railway Station around 11 am on Wednesday.
Authorities confirmed that Parida is under interrogation. Meanwhile, raids continue across Jajpur district to capture the three absconding accomplices. Police sources stated that the investigation remains a priority, with multiple teams deployed to ensure swift justice.
