As Bhubaneswar wraps up its grand Dussehra celebrations, the Commissionerate Police have implemented strict security and regulatory measures for the upcoming Bhasani Utsav (idol immersion processions) and Ravan Podi events.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Saravana Vivek M announced a total ban on DJ music during immersion rallies, warning of immediate equipment seizure and criminal cases for non-compliance.
Strict Ban on DJ Music During Immersion Processions
To maintain public order, peace, and adhere to noise pollution guidelines, the police have drawn a hard line against high-decibel music systems:
- The Directive: DJ music is strictly prohibited during all immersion processions across Bhubaneswar.
- Consequences: Violators will face the immediate seizure of their DJ equipment alongside the registration of criminal cases.
- Traditional Alternatives: When organizers requested clarification on permissible entertainment, police advised them to embrace traditional musical instruments and cultural troupes instead.
Comprehensive Security for Bhasani Utsav
With thousands of devotees expected to participate in the final immersion ceremonies, law enforcement has mobilized heavy security across the capital:
- Deployment: A formidable force comprising 48 platoons of police personnel and around 100 officers of various ranks will oversee law and order.
- Eco-Friendly Immersion Ponds: To prevent environmental degradation of natural water bodies, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has established six temporary immersion ponds:
- Three near the Kuakhai River
- One near the Daya River
- One near Centurion University
- One in the Chandaka area
Safety Guidelines for Ravan Podi Events
For the customary Ravan Podi (effigy burning) celebrations scheduled across nine designated locations in the city, strict safety protocols have been mandated:
- Buffer Zones: A mandatory minimum safety distance of 100 metres must be maintained in all directions from each Ravan Podi site.
- Fireworks Storage: Storage facilities for fireworks must be positioned at least 250 metres away from the main event grounds.
- Emergency Response: Each of the nine locations will see the deployment of two police platoons alongside dedicated fire service teams ready to handle any emergencies.
Authorities have appealed to all puja committees, organizers, and participants to cooperate fully with police and municipal teams to ensure a peaceful, safe, and joyous conclusion to the festive season.
