A fresh controversy erupted in Puri after social media influencer and YouTuber Subhankar Mishra made remarks about the Jagannath Temple, claiming that couples who visit the shrine before marriage will never succeed in love or wedlock due to a supposed curse by Goddess Radharani.

His comments, made in a recent video, immediately triggered widespread debate and criticism. Moreover, several devotees, locals, and traditional scholars condemned the remarks, describing them as misleading, inaccurate, and disrespectful to the centuries-old traditions of the temple. Mishra alleged that Radharani cursed the temple after servitors denied her entry, which, according to him, prevents couples from achieving marital success if they visit before marriage.

Responding to the uproar, the Puri Collector announced that a committee will examine the authenticity of Mishra’s remarks. Furthermore, he assured that action will follow once the report is submitted. He also urged citizens not to spread rumours or circulate false information about the temple.

The Collector stressed that the administration remains committed to safeguarding the sanctity of the shrine. In addition, he clarified that officials will address any misleading narratives about the temple’s history or rituals through proper inquiry.

Meanwhile, sevayats and devotees demanded that influencers exercise responsibility when discussing sensitive subjects related to Lord Jagannath. They argued that such statements distort cultural heritage and hurt public sentiment. Consequently, the issue has become a matter of public debate, with calls for restraint and factual clarity.
