President of India Droupadi Murmu released the Constitution of India in the Santhali language at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Speaking on the occasion, the President emphasised that the release is a matter of pride and joy for the Santhali community. Moreover, she said the translation, written in the Ol Chiki script, will allow Santhali people to read and understand the Constitution in their own language.

The President further noted that this year marks the centenary of the Ol Chiki script. In addition, she appreciated the Union Minister of Law and Justice and his team for bringing out the Santhali version of the Constitution in this milestone year.

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal also attended the ceremony.

The Santhali language, included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution through the 92nd Amendment Act, 2003, is considered one of India’s most ancient living languages. Furthermore, it is spoken widely by tribal communities in Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar.

Officials stated that the release represents a significant step toward inclusivity and cultural recognition. Consequently, it ensures that tribal communities can access the nation’s foundational document in their mother tongue.
