Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended warm Christmas greetings to the nation, conveying wishes of peace, compassion, and hope on the occasion.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister said, “Wishing everyone a joyous Christmas filled with peace, compassion and hope. May the teachings of Jesus Christ strengthen harmony in our society.”

The Prime Minister’s message underscored the enduring values of love, service, and brotherhood associated with the teachings of Jesus Christ, emphasising their continued relevance in promoting social harmony and mutual respect.

President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her Christmas wishes, extending greetings to citizens across the country, with a special message for the Christian community.

“On this auspicious occasion of Christmas, I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all citizens, especially brothers and sisters of the Christian community,” the President said in her post. She noted that Christmas conveys the message of love and compassion and serves as a reminder of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the welfare of humanity.

President Murmu added that the festival inspires people to strengthen the values of peace, harmony, equality, and service, and called upon citizens to work collectively towards building a society rooted in kindness and mutual respect.

Festive Spirit Across the Country

Cities and towns across India are witnessing vibrant Christmas celebrations, with markets and public spaces decorated with lights, bells, wreaths, glowing stars, and Christmas trees. Storefronts featuring Santa Claus displays and festive décor have added to the celebratory atmosphere.

Christmas, observed annually on December 25, commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ and is celebrated worldwide with joy and devotion. The festival symbolises peace, love, and goodwill.

Families marked the occasion by gathering for meals, exchanging gifts, and singing Christmas carols, while churches across the country held special prayer services, creating an atmosphere of faith and hope during the winter season.
