President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Planetarium, Science Centre, and Nirmal Munda Parivesh Path at a public function in Rourkela on April 21, 2026.
She later opened the Tribal Museum and Integrated Command and Control Centre, marking a significant milestone in Odisha’s development.
Addressing the gathering, the President said Sundargarh’s natural beauty, folk culture, and heritage hold immense charm. She noted that its forests, rivers, and art traditions enrich Odisha’s cultural identity. The President praised the people of Sundargarh for their courage and passion for sports, calling the district a land of talent and resilience.
She emphasised that Rourkela’s cosmopolitan character reflects India’s unity in diversity, with residents from across the country contributing to its growth. The city, she said, has played a vital role in promoting Odisha’s art, literature, tribal traditions, and sports.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to inclusive development, the President said that progress depends on uplifting every section of society. She commended Central and State initiatives for tribal welfare, which are accelerating economic growth in tribal-dominated districts like Sundargarh.
The President urged citizens to participate actively in nation-building and help others rise alongside them. She reaffirmed India’s vision of becoming Viksit Bharat by 2047 and called for a collective effort to build a prosperous Odisha by 2036.
