Chennai Super Kings confirmed that batter Ayush Mhatre will miss the remainder of IPL 2026 after sustaining a left hamstring injury during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18.
The franchise stated that Mhatre will require six to twelve weeks of rehabilitation to regain full fitness.
Mhatre’s absence comes as a major blow ahead of CSK’s high-profile clash against the Mumbai Indians on April 23. He had been one of the team’s most consistent performers, scoring 201 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 177.87 and an average of 33.5. His aggressive batting in the power play had become a key part of CSK’s strategy this season.
The team’s official statement read, “Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 due to a left hamstring injury sustained while batting against Sunrisers Hyderabad. We wish Ayush a speedy recovery.”
CSK’s campaign has been marred by injuries. Dewald Brevis missed the opening matches, MS Dhoni continues to recover from a calf strain, and Nathan Ellis was ruled out before the season began. His replacement, Spencer Johnson, joined late after his own recovery, while Khaleel Ahmed also suffered a season-ending injury.
Currently placed eighth in the points table with two wins from six matches, CSK faces an uphill battle to revive its season without Mhatre’s explosive presence.
