In the early hours of March 23, 2025, a daring theft rattled a jewellery shop in Tarini Nagar, Unit-8, Bhubaneswar.
The shop’s owner, Prakash Chandra Sahoo, discovered the theft after being alerted by his landlord. Upon reaching the scene, Sahoo found the shop’s lock broken and several silver ornaments missing, including rings, lockets, and other valuable items weighing approximately 1,050 grams.
Swift action by the Nayapalli Police Station led to the apprehension of two suspects, Rakesh Mukhi and Santosh Kumar Pradhan, from the ID Market while they were attempting to dispose of the stolen jewellery. Both suspects have a history of criminal activities, with Mukhi being linked to three prior cases and Pradhan to eleven.
Police recovered the stolen items, which included 83 pairs of foot rings, 82 pairs of finger rings, and 66 lockets, along with other decorative items. The motive behind the theft appears to have been unlawful financial gain. This case highlights the importance of rapid police response and community vigilance in combating crime.
