PMO Renamed ‘Seva Tirth’; Raj Bhavans Become Lok Bhavan in Government’s 24×7 Service Initiative

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has officially been renamed ‘Seva Tirth’, reflecting the government’s emphasis on public service and round-the-clock governance. In a related move, Raj Bhavans and Raj Niwas across India will be called Lok Bhavan and Lok Niwas, respectively, as part of a broader initiative to align public institutions with the spirit of service.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the renaming as a significant milestone in India’s journey toward development. In a message shared on X, he emphasized that the Modi government has focused on service rather than power for the past 11 years, with the Prime Minister acting as Pradhan Sevak, working seven days a week for the welfare of citizens.

“Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji has reiterated the resolve for service and named the PMO ‘Seva Tirth’. Simultaneously, Raj Bhavan and Raj Niwas are being renamed as Lok Bhavan and Lok Niwas,” Shah stated.

The new PMO complex, previously part of the Executive Enclave under the Central Vista Redevelopment Project, is nearing completion. It will house offices of the Cabinet Secretariat, National Security Council Secretariat, and India House, intended for meetings with visiting dignitaries.

The renaming of Raj Bhavans and Raj Niwas is seen as part of a broader ideological shift under the Modi administration, emphasizing governance as “satta se seva, adhikar se jimmedari” (from authority to service, from power to responsibility). Sources cited by ANI describe the move as both a cultural and moral transformation, reflecting a shift in the mindset of India’s public institutions.

The Central Secretariat has also been renamed Kartavya Bhavan, serving as a large administrative hub built around the principle that public service is a commitment, further reinforcing the government’s service-oriented vision.
