Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with board members of the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) at Seva Teerth, emphasizing that technology must serve as an engine for inclusive and sustainable development rather than widening the digital divide.
The high-level interaction took place ahead of the upcoming India Mobile Congress (IMC) and was attended by Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, along with senior government officials and global telecom executives.
Bridging the Digital Divide and Exporting DPI
Speaking to representatives of the global mobile ecosystem, PM Modi stressed the importance of democratizing technology to reach the last mile, particularly across countries in the Global South.
He highlighted India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) as a proven transformative blueprint, noting that international leaders increasingly look toward Indian DPI solutions to foster financial inclusion and service delivery in developing nations.
Combatting Cyber Fraud and AI Deepfakes
Addressing emerging threats in the digital ecosystem, the Prime Minister called for robust, technology-driven solutions to tackle rising instances of cyber fraud and online scams. He advocated for continuous user-awareness mechanisms to alert citizens against potential scam calls.
PM Modi also expressed concern over the proliferation of AI-generated deepfakes, urging global stakeholders to establish common standards and tracking mechanisms that allow users to immediately trace the origin of synthetic content.
Global Telecom Leaders Praise India’s Scale
GSMA Board members commended India’s rapid digital evolution, citing the nation’s swift 4G and 5G network expansion, strong manufacturing policies, and robust digital public infrastructure.
The delegation highlighted emerging opportunities for international collaboration with India across critical domains, including:
