A major tragedy was averted on Sunday when a running car suddenly caught fire in the Infocity police station area of Bhubaneswar.
Thick black smoke and towering flames caused panic among motorists and pedestrians on the busy road, but prompt action by local emergency services ensured no casualties were reported.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle began emitting smoke from the front hood before bursting into flames. The driver managed to pull over safely and escape just in time.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Chandrasekharpur fire services unit rushed to the spot with a fire tender. Firefighters battled the blaze and successfully brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading further.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the sudden mishap was likely caused by severe engine overheating. Authorities have reiterated the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, checking coolant levels, and monitoring engine temperatures—especially during high-temperature conditions—to avoid such dangerous fire hazards on the road.
