Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the 136th edition of Mann Ki Baat, paying tribute to the brave soldiers of the Kargil War while highlighting India’s rapid progress in defence manufacturing, space technology, sports, science and grassroots innovation.

Marking Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Prime Minister said July 26 is a day that fills every Indian with pride and serves as a reminder of the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the armed forces.

“Today, I pay my heartfelt respects to all the brave martyrs and soldiers who safeguarded the nation with unmatched courage,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi Hails Kargil Heroes

The Prime Minister noted that a special ‘Shaurya Vijay Yatra’ has been organised this year to honour the nation’s heroes. The motorcycle rally began on July 14 from the National War Memorial in New Delhi and will conclude at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras.

According to PM Modi, the campaign carries the message: “One Ride, One Nation, One Salute,” symbolising the nation’s enduring gratitude towards its armed forces.

India Becoming a Trusted Global Defence Partner

Highlighting India’s defence capabilities, PM Modi said the country is steadily emerging as a trusted global defence partner through indigenous manufacturing and technological innovation.

He referred to the recent induction of INS Mahendragiri into the Indian Navy, stating that the warship represents India’s growing self-reliance in defence production.

The Prime Minister noted that more than 75% of the warship’s components are indigenous, reflecting the success of the country’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

He also praised the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for successfully testing the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket and the Kusha missile system, describing them as significant milestones in India’s defence technology.

PM Modi further said India’s defence exports and strategic partnerships continue to expand globally. He pointed to the recently signed agreements with Indonesia involving BrahMos and Astra missiles, saying they demonstrate growing international confidence in Indian defence technology.

Indian Athletes Continue to Shine

The Prime Minister congratulated Indian athletes for their remarkable achievements on the global stage.

He praised PV Sindhu for becoming the first Indian to win the Japan Open badminton title, calling it a proud moment for the country.

PM Modi also applauded the Indian women’s cricket team for scripting history with their first-ever Test victory at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

Private Space Sector Achieves Historic Milestone

The Prime Minister also celebrated the successful launch of Vikram-1, describing it as a landmark achievement for India’s private space sector.

He said the mission showcased the talent, determination and innovation of India’s young entrepreneurs and marked a new chapter in the country’s space journey.

Indian Students Excel in International Olympiads

PM Modi lauded Indian students for their outstanding performance at international science Olympiads.

He said:

  • India secured first place in the International Physics Olympiad, with all five participants winning gold medals.
  • Indian students also won gold medals in the International Chemistry Olympiad.
  • The country’s Biology Olympiad team earned multiple medals, including one gold.
  • At the Mathematics Olympiad, Indian students won two gold and four silver medals.

He described these achievements as evidence of India’s growing scientific talent.

Promoting Culture and Traditional Crafts

The Prime Minister highlighted several grassroots initiatives from across the country.

He praised a Sanskrit Club in South Chittoor, Kerala, where innovative teaching methods are encouraging students to learn the classical language.

PM Modi also appreciated efforts by artisans in Kashmir to revive the traditional Wagu mat-making craft, recognising the contribution of local craftsmen in preserving India’s cultural heritage.

Women-Led Entrepreneurship Gets Recognition

The Prime Minister also highlighted the success of a Self-Help Group in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, which developed the Vidur Prerana Swadeshi Herbal Tea brand using natural ingredients such as lemongrass, giloy, basil, turmeric, cinnamon and cardamom.

He said the initiative began with an investment of just ₹1 lakh and has now expanded to major institutions across the country, demonstrating the power of women-led entrepreneurship and local innovation.

PM Modi said such success stories show how community participation, traditional knowledge and self-confidence can drive meaningful development across India.
