Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pralhad Joshi on Sunday assumed charge as the Union Education Minister, a day after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from the post.
Joshi’s appointment comes amid heightened national attention following Pradhan’s resignation after weeks of student protests demanding accountability over the alleged NEET paper leak and examination reforms.
After taking charge, Pralhad Joshi said he would work to strengthen India’s education system while ensuring transparency, quality, and inclusive opportunities for students across the country. He also stressed the importance of implementing reforms that benefit learners, teachers, and educational institutions.
The leadership change marks a significant transition for the Ministry of Education at a time when examination reforms, student welfare, and institutional accountability remain key priorities. The new minister is expected to review ongoing initiatives and oversee the implementation of proposed reforms aimed at improving the country’s examination system.
Dharmendra Pradhan submitted his resignation on Saturday, stating that his decision was taken keeping the interests and future of students in mind. His exit followed sustained nationwide protests over the alleged NEET examination irregularities.
The appointment of Pralhad Joshi is expected to provide continuity in governance while addressing pressing concerns related to education policy, competitive examinations, and higher education reforms.
