Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 78th Session of the World Health Assembly today, emphasising India’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable healthcare.
Highlighting the theme ‘One World for Health’, Modi outlined India’s approach to global health challenges, stressing collaboration and technological innovation.
The Prime Minister spotlighted India’s Ayushman Bharat scheme—the world’s largest health insurance program covering over 580 million citizens. He announced its expansion to include all Indians above 70 years old, reinforcing India’s dedication to universal healthcare. Modi also emphasised India’s network of health and wellness centres, which enable early screening for critical diseases like cancer, diabetes, and hypertension.
India’s digital health initiatives featured prominently in his address, including a telemedicine platform that has facilitated 340 million consultations and a comprehensive digital health identity system integrating insurance, benefits, and medical records.
Addressing global health equity, Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to the Global South, advocating scalable and replicable healthcare models. He urged collaboration among nations, extending India’s expertise to strengthen global health systems.
Looking ahead, Modi encouraged global participation in the 11th International Day of Yoga, themed ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’. He reinforced yoga’s role in promoting holistic well-being, inviting nations to embrace the ancient practice.
The Prime Minister concluded with a timeless Vedic prayer for a world free from disease and suffering, envisioning a future where no one is left behind in healthcare advancements.
