Binjharpur police arrested Rakesh Mallik, 25, from Balasore late Tuesday night after he issued death threats over the phone to Pihu’s mother, Monalisa Nayak.
Police seized his mobile phone and began an investigation.
The incident connects to the 2020 disappearance of Pihu from Madhusudanpur village under Binjharpur police limits. Pihu went missing while playing near her home, and her mother, Monalisa, has since demanded government intervention to trace her daughter.
Recently, Monalisa received multiple calls from different numbers. The callers used abusive language and threatened to kill her. Disturbed by the repeated harassment, she lodged a written complaint at the Binjharpur police station. Acting on the complaint, police registered case number 577/25 and launched a probe.
Authorities confirmed that the arrest marks a significant step in addressing the threats. Investigators continue to examine the seized mobile phone for further evidence. The case highlights the ongoing struggle of Pihu’s family and the challenges they face while seeking justice.
