Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission (SEC) has issued a fresh date, giving a second chance to candidates to file their nominations for upcoming Panchayat elections.
The SEC has issued a notification in connection to file candidates’ nominations from the Wards, Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad seats where nominations were not filed or all the nominations were rejected.
Speaking to the media persons, State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi informed that nominations have not been filed or have been rejected for posts of around 4000 Ward Members, Sarpanchs, and Samiti Members.
“The candidates can file their nominations from January 27 onwards. However, if no nominations are received in the second phase, there will be no election held and the posts will be nominated by the State Government,” the SEC said.
“We are keeping a strong vigil on the Covid-19 situation in the State and accordingly a decision about the guidelines for Panchayat election campaigning will be taken soon,” said Padhi.
The State Chief Election Commission also indicated that considering the Covid-19 situation in the State, a decision regarding the guidelines for the Panchayat election campaigning will be taken.
