Odisha Police’s intensive crackdown under Operation Garuda has sent shockwaves across the state’s criminal networks.
Over a span of 16 days, authorities executed 3,643 non-bailable warrants (NBWs), registered 1,806 excise cases, and seized substantial contraband, weapons, and cash.
The operation led to the recovery of 3,030 kg of ganja, 664 grams of brown sugar, 63 firearms, 95 rounds of ammunition, and Rs 1.45 lakh in cash. Gambling activities were also targeted, resulting in 70 cases, 406 arrests, and the seizure of three cars, 52 motorcycles, 47 mobile phones, and Rs 6.28 lakh. Drunk driving violations accounted for 163 cases and arrests.
Ganjam district stood out with 383 NBWs executed and the seizure of 11 firearms and ammunition. Officials highlighted that the operation has instilled widespread fear among offenders, with police committed to sustaining the crackdown.
ADG (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar said, “Operation Garuda, launched on August 1, aimed at executing pending NBWs and targeting illegal excise, weapon smuggling, gambling, and drunk-driving cases. Initially planned for a week, the operation was extended and has produced satisfactory results.”
The operation also involved the seizure of over 47,000 litres of liquor, further emphasizing the government’s commitment to tackling organized crime and illegal activities across Odisha.
