A youth attacked a girl’s father with a sharp weapon in Dhamnagar, Bhadrak, after the father opposed his one-sided love.
The incident occurred on November 5 near Tula Matula School in Basudevpur block’s Aruha panchayat. The accused, a youth from Canal Aadi village in Barandua panchayat, had been obsessively pursuing the girl despite her family’s disapproval. Her father, Rajendra Rout of Kunchagadia village, had repeatedly warned him to stay away.
On Wednesday, Rajendra accompanied his daughter to her tuition class. The accused, who had been waiting nearby, confronted them. When Rajendra scolded him, the youth pulled out a sharp weapon from his pocket and slashed Rajendra’s back.
Locals rushed to the scene, prompting the attacker to flee, abandoning his motorcycle. Police arrived shortly after, seized the vehicle, and launched a manhunt. A 108 ambulance transported Rajendra to Basudevpur hospital, where he remains under treatment.
