A significant milestone was reached in the ongoing Khurda Road–Balangir New Rail Line project on April 16, 2025, with the successful breakthrough of Tunnel T-4 between Adenigarh and Charichhak stations in Boudh district, Odisha. At 4,185 meters, this tunnel is now the longest rail tunnel in the state.
So far, 226 km of the total 301 km stretch has been commissioned—connecting Khurda Road to Daspalla and Balangir to Purnakatak. The remaining 75 km section, including seven under-construction tunnels, is steadily progressing.
The breakthrough of Tunnel T-4 is expected to accelerate construction, bringing Odisha closer to enhanced connectivity between its coastal region and western hinterland, boosting regional integration, seamless travel, and economic development.
