In a late-night joint operation in the Indranipatna area of Choudwar, Cuttack, two notorious criminals were injured during a police encounter.
The operation, carried out by the Choudwar Police along with the Special Squad, targeted individuals with extensive records of criminal activity.
The suspects, identified as Katas Raut and Shubhranshu Parida, were under surveillance for some time. According to police sources, Katas is involved in at least 15 criminal cases, while Shubhranshu is allegedly linked to more than 50, including charges of extortion and armed robbery.
The police attempted to apprehend the duo late Tuesday night. However, the situation escalated when the suspects allegedly opened fire on the officers. In response, police retaliated, injuring both accused in the legs.
The two were quickly transported to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment. As per the latest updates, both are in stable condition.
Authorities recovered firearms and live ammunition from the site of the encounter. Officials say the suspects were known for their violent behavior and posed a serious threat during the raid.
As of now, an official statement from the police is awaited, though investigations are ongoing. The operation is part of a wider crackdown on criminal networks in the state.
