Following spells of intense weather, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has released its latest midday bulletin, indicating that light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely to continue in parts of Odisha over the next 24 hours.

An active trough line running from Bihar across Jharkhand and Odisha to the west-central Bay of Bengal is driving the current weather pattern, bringing scattered rainfall and gentle to moderate winds across the state.

District Alerts & Wind Warnings

The Meteorological Centre has issued weather alerts for 8 districts up to September 29. The affected districts include:

  • Baleshwar

  • Bhadrak

  • Jajpur

  • Kendrapada

  • Jagatsinghpur

  • Kataka

  • Kendujhar

  • Mayurbhanj

In these regions, isolated pockets may experience lightning, thunder, and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are also expected in other parts of the state. However, weather conditions are projected to improve significantly from Monday, September 29 onwards, with no active warnings remaining in place.

Recent Rainfall & Temperature Statistics

Over the past 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall was recorded across various stations. Notable figures include:

  • Mundali and Naraj (Kataka district): Highest rainfall of 7 cm

  • Remuna (Baleshwar district): 6 cm

  • Highest Temperature: Nayagada at 33.4°C

  • Lowest Temperature: Boudh at 19.2°C

Officials note that gusty winds may cause minor damage to paddy crops, banana plants, and thatched or weak structures.

Safety Advisories and Mobile Apps

Citizens have been strongly advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, keep doors and windows shut, and unplug sensitive electrical appliances. People are strictly cautioned against taking shelter under trees or remaining in open fields during lightning strikes.

For real-time weather tracking and safety updates, the government recommends utilising official mobile applications such as ‘Mausam’, ‘Damini’ (for lightning alerts), and ‘Meghdoot’.
