The low-pressure area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood has shifted and now lies over the Northwest-Westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest bulletin.
The system was located in this region at 5:30 am on Friday.
According to the IMD, the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is tilting southwestwards with height.
Squally winds up to 60 kmph likely
The weather system has prompted the IMD to issue a wind warning for the region.
Squally winds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph are very likely over the North Bay of Bengal and Central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.
Similar wind conditions are expected along and off the coasts of Bangladesh, West Bengal, Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh during the same period.
Rough sea conditions expected
The IMD has warned that rough to very rough sea conditions are likely over the North Bay of Bengal and Central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.
Given the expected weather and sea conditions, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the North Bay of Bengal and Central Bay of Bengal.
The advisory also covers areas along and off the Bangladesh-West Bengal-Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts over the next 48 hours.
