The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall across Odisha until August 2, with several districts expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain over the coming days.

The weather conditions are being influenced by a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal–North Odisha coast, which has already brought widespread rainfall across the state over the past 48 hours.

The IMD has issued orange and yellow warnings for multiple districts, advising residents and local authorities to remain alert, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and localized flooding.

Orange Alert for Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall

Till 8:30 AM, July 29

The IMD has issued an orange warning for the following districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places:

  • Sundargarh

  • Bargarh
  • Sambalpur

Residents in these districts have been advised to remain cautious and monitor official weather updates.

  • Sundargarh
  • Jharsuguda
  • Bargarh

  • Jajpur
  • Kendrapara
  • Jagatsinghpur
  • Cuttack
  • Keonjhar
  • Mayurbhanj
  • Gajapati
  • Ganjam
  • Puri

Heavy Rain Likely Again on August 2

The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for August 2, predicting heavy rainfall at one or two places in:

  • Sundargarh
  • Keonjhar
  • Mayurbhanj

Deep Depression Driving Odisha’s Weather

According to the IMD, the ongoing rainfall is linked to a deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and north Odisha. The system is expected to keep weather conditions favourable for widespread rainfall across the state over the next few days.

Authorities have advised people to stay updated with official weather bulletins, avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall, and take precautions against lightning and strong winds.
