Marking a historic day for Odisha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Odisha Vision 2036 & 2047, an aspirational yet grounded roadmap aimed at transforming the state into a USD 1.5 trillion economy by the nation’s centenary of independence.
Crafted through consultations with over 3.2 lakh citizens—including youth, women, farmers, and global Odia diaspora—the Vision document reflects a broad-based consensus on Odisha’s future.
The initiative is anchored in two pivotal milestones: 100 years of Odisha’s formation in 2036 and India’s 100th year of independence in 2047.
Strengths and Challenges: The blueprint identifies Odisha’s key strengths—from its rich cultural heritage and forested coastline to mineral resources and a young workforce. Yet, it also acknowledges structural roadblocks like regional disparities, infrastructure gaps, and the need for rapid innovation.
Strategic Growth Areas: The state government’s focus spans six catalytic sectors:
- Advanced Manufacturing: Encouraging tech-led industries, including semiconductors and green materials.
- Tourism & Culture: Harnessing Odisha’s temples, crafts, and coastline for sustainable growth.
- Digital Economy: Building on Bhubaneswar’s tech ecosystem and startup culture.
- Transport & Logistics: Enhancing multimodal connectivity to establish Odisha as the eastern logistics hub.
- Green Energy Leadership: Scaling solar, hydrogen, and biomass initiatives to make Odisha a clean energy exporter.
- Agricultural Transformation: Promoting food processing, diversification, and climate-smart farming.
Institutional Reforms & Pillars: The Vision rests on six foundational pillars—People First, Rural Empowerment, Governance Reform, Inclusive Prosperity, Cultural Legacy, and Tech-Driven Development. Key reforms include digital governance, public financial transparency, skill universities, and a transition to clean, climate-resilient infrastructure.
Among Odisha’s top aspirations: achieving 100% literacy, elevating female workforce participation to 70%, becoming a global skilling hub, and ranking among India’s top five states in health and gender equality.
“This is not just a document—it is a people’s declaration for an equitable and empowered Odisha,” stated Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
With a blend of cultural pride and futuristic ambition, Odisha’s Vision 2036 & 2047 signals a bold leap into an inclusive, prosperous, and globally competitive future.
