Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday conducted simultaneous searches at seven locations linked to Umakanta Samantaray, Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers in Sambalpur, in connection with allegations of possessing disproportionate assets beyond his known sources of income.
The searches are being carried out in Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Khordha and cover residential properties, an office chamber and other locations linked to the officer.
The operation is based on search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur.
Searches at seven locations
In Sambalpur, Vigilance officials are searching a 3BHK flat at Sun City Apartment in Dhanakauda. His office chamber at the Deputy Director, Factories and Boilers office is also under search.
In Bhubaneswar, officials are searching a duplex at Nandan Vihar on Nandankanan Road. Another building near Indus College of Engineering at Barakuda near Jatani is also being searched.
The Vigilance team is conducting another search at a three-storey building in Tota Behera Sahi at Baliguali in Puri.
In Khordha district, searches are underway at a two-storey building on Subash Marg in Balugaon. His ancestral house at Ashok Nagar, Balugaon, is also under search.
Officials are examining property-related documents and other records as part of the investigation.
30 Vigilance officials involved
The raids are being conducted by a team comprising eight DSPs, 11 Inspectors and 11 ASIs, along with other supporting personnel.
The searches were underway when the report was filed. Further details regarding the assets and documents recovered, if any, are awaited.
The allegations of disproportionate assets remain subject to investigation and verification by Odisha Vigilance.
