Odisha Vigilance today apprehended Narayan Prasad Lenka, a Junior Clerk in the Office of the Block Education Officer (BEO), Mahakalpada, Kendrapara district, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000.
The sting operation took place at Canal Road, Marshaghai, following a complaint from a Headmaster who alleged harassment by Lenka. The clerk had demanded the bribe to process the final instalment of a Rs. 6.20 lakh housing loan, as well as clear pending salary and travel allowance (TA) bills for the complainant.
The Headmaster, frustrated by Lenka’s deliberate delays and refusal to process the bills without payment, reported the matter to Odisha Vigilance. Acting swiftly, the authorities set up a trap and caught Lenka red-handed while he accepted the tainted bribe money. The entire sum of Rs. 15,000 was recovered from Lenka’s exclusive possession and seized as evidence. Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to Lenka to investigate potential disproportionate assets (DA).
A case has been registered under Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 21, dated August 12, 2025, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing, with further details expected to emerge.
