Odisha Vigilance arrested cooperative official Patitapaban Majhi for misappropriating Rs. 33.80 lakh from the Garhsantri Service Co-operative Society under Angul United Central Co-operative Bank.
Investigators revealed that the financial crime dates back to 2017-18 when Majhi served as Executive Secretary of the Garhsantri SCS. He allegedly fabricated entries in the Day Books and diverted government deposits meant for agricultural and cooperative development schemes. While records showed transactions as balanced, the physical cash was never deposited into the bank.
Majhi, currently working as a banking assistant at AUCCB headquarters, allegedly pocketed the funds for personal use. Vigilance officials confirmed that the embezzled amount totalled Rs 33,80,963.
Cuttack Vigilance Police registered Case No. 21 dated 29.05.2026 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and relevant IPC sections. Officials forwarded Majhi to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul.
